Sleeping out so that others don’t have to!

I am the founder and president of Casa Ioana since it was established in 1995. We work with women and children experiencing domestic abuse and family homelessness, by providing them with safe temporary accommodation and professional psychosocial support.

To mark World Homeless Day (10th October) Casa Ioana has organised a Sleep Out involving a number of people from the diplomatic and political sectors as well as from the business and education sectors in Bucharest. We will be sleeping out in the large yard of Share Café (a social enterprise in Bucharest) between 22:00 hours on the 13th October to 06:00 hours on the 14th October and will be sleeping (or trying to!) on the cobbles to raise awareness of homelessness and to highlight a local solution to the phenomena.

We know that sleeping out for one night does not reflect the reality of being homeless, nor do we seek to promote it as such, but it is effective in raising awareness.
All funds received through this event are going to Casa Ioana to help in their life changing and lifesaving work. Please be generous!

Asociația Casa Ioana

In 1997, Casa Ioana opened the country’s first night shelter, for people who had lost their homes, following a request by the Mayor of Bucharest. Since 2000 however, we have focused our attention on providing temporary accommodation and professional psychosocial support to women and children experiencing domestic violence and family homelessness.

New Beginning

Our ‘New Beginning’ project aims to empower survivors of domestic abuse by ensuring that they have the tools they need to leave an abusive relationship and to move on with their lives.
