Casa Ioana meets the needs of women and children experiencing domestic abuse by working with a broad network of both public and private providers to address the multiple underlying issues of domestic violence and help survivors acquire the skills to regain family stability and affordable housing. Our experienced team is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for their beneficiaries and has accumulated 36 years’ experience with homelessness as well as 32 years’ practice in dealing with domestic violence.

Our ‘New Beginning’ project aims to empower survivors of domestic abuse by ensuring that they have the tools they need to leave an abusive relationship and to move on with their lives. Besides providing specialised counselling, the project aims to offer legal advice and the chance to obtain Protection Orders where required. Importantly, because many of our beneficiaries have been denied the opportunity to work or be financially independent, Casa Ioana offers a financial literacy-training course.

Casa Ioana’s ‘New Beginning’ project will have ensured that survivors of domestic abuse have been empowered to make positive move-on with their lives. Our support will have enabled beneficiaries to deal with personal issues and obtain legal protection, as well as obtain employment and the financial literacy to support themselves and their families.

Project beneficiaries will be women and children experiencing domestic violence. Our refuge accommodates 7 families and 2 single women at any one time. Beneficiaries are normally ready to move on within 6 – 8 months.

Besides domestic violence being a serious human rights violation, there are serious economic effects, both in terms of financial costs to victims as well as the broader impact on the economy. This project, through intervening in and preventing domestic violence, will be highly cost-effective and help raise awareness of the consequences of not dealing with this phenomenon.
